Patriotic Guided Tours of our US Capital

It抯 exciting to know that, on a nearly year-round basis, you can take your family on a guided tour of Washington, DC, our

US Capital and a fascinating city to visit. This is a good city for families to visit as it teaches children how our

government works and there are dozens of interesting things to see and do.

Guided tours of Washington DC can be walking tours, driving tours or a combination of both. In many cases, because traffic

can be difficult around the capital, it pays to spend most of your time on a guided walking tour. As you may know, most

aspects of central Washington DC are centered on a large rectangular 搈all?with places to visit throughout. Pick a spot

and follow through from there.

Perhaps you抣l want to start out at our nation抯 capital building. It抯 a busy place where you may be able to view the

places where the Senate and the House of Representatives meet and make our laws. Most guided tours will show you specific

points of interest, including interesting architecture, paintings and statues.

The Smithsonian Institute lies in several buildings on either side of the capital building. On guided tours of these areas,

you may wish to pick the buildings and areas you think you and your family will like the most. Perhaps you will choose the

Air and Space Museum. You抣l see old rockets, space suits, famous airplanes and even a planetarium show. Kids love this

museum and adults get a chance to be kids for a change.

The Holocaust Museum is tucked away along the south side of the mall and it抯 not as easy to see; however, many guided tours of the area will show you the way. This museum is a must-see event that will teach you and your children a great deal about what so many people suffered through.

As you walk along the mall, the large obelisk, the Washington Monument looms as the center point in the mall. Guided tours

of Washington DC often stop here. To the South, you抣l see the Jefferson Memorial and, to the North, you抣l see the White

House. While the lines may be long, you can often get in to see a guided tour of the inside of the White House.

Further down on the mall are the Vietnam Memorial Wall, a striking design that moves nearly every one who sees it. Guided

tours of the area will also take you to the newer memorial to World War II veterans. If you come at the right time of the

year, usually in early to mid-spring, you can see the cherry blossoms in full bloom along both sides of a rectangular,

shallow reflecting pool. In wintertime, however, the pool is drained.

None of the guided tours of Washington DC will let you miss the Lincoln Memorial with its famous statue of the seated

Abraham Lincoln. From the top of its steps, you can see the entire mall in all its glory.

If you抮e on one of the guided tours of Washington DC that has a driving component, they抣l probably take you to see

Arlington Cemetery, where many famous people have been buried. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, also called the Tomb of

the Unknowns. As a way to finish the trip, drive by the massive Pentagon to see how huge it is how many people work there.

A Taste of Aussie Life on Guided Tours of Northern Australia

Australia is a huge and diverse land of beauty and wonder. Guided tours of several areas of this vast continent are

available, including guided tours of Northern Australia, which take you into the interior of this wonderful and fascinating

place.

Many guided tours of Northern Australia will take you first to the ocean on a luxury sailing tour of the Great Barrier Reef,

one of Australia抯 most popular natural wonders. Through crystal clear ocean waters, you can snorkel or scuba dive among

the amazing sea life that lives among the lovely coral reefs. After a day on the ocean, you抣l travel west through some

changing landscapes and into the Australian outback.

The next stop on most guided tours of Northern Australia is a trip to Mount Isa, a lovely mining town and then through

Queensland and Carnooweal on your way to the flat and interesting Northern Territory. Perhaps you抣l take a refreshing

swim in the aqua-colored waters of the Mataranka抯 thermal pool, hidden within a grove of tall, shady palm trees.

Following this stop, you抣l head back up north.

As you travel, many guided tours of this area will take you on a cruise through the spectacular gorge systems of the

Katherine Gorge and then it抯 on to the fascinating Magnetic termite mounds, visible in the Litchfield National Park.

Visitors can swim at the lovely Florence Falls before going back to civilization in the city of Darwin in Northern Australia.

In Darwin, guided tours will often have you stay at a luxury hotel and will show you the areas for shopping, dining and

enjoying the nightlife at one of Darwin抯 famous nightclubs. Visit the museums and the historic early settlement in this

Australian frontier city. Guided tours by open top bus of the city are available for those who wish to see what Darwin is

all about.

Next, guided tours will head east to the famous Kakadu National Park, truly one of Australia抯 most lovely wilderness

refuges. In the park, you抣l see the Nourlangie Rock which reveals original aboriginal art from thousands of years ago and

you抣l be visiting an aboriginal site where these people have lived for more than 40,000 years.

To really 搒ee?Australia抯 finest, many Northern Australia guided tours will take you on a Yellow Water Billabong Cruise,

where you can snap pictures and catch sight of Australia抯 many crocodiles, snakes, dingos and other water life easily

found in the Kakadu region.

Another favorite spot for guided tours of Northern Australia is the Manyallaluk Aboriginal Cultural Center where you抣l see

how the native peoples lived and continue to live today. Demonstrations show you how to throw a spear and create fire the

natural way. This center is run by the aborigines themselves so you抣l get a really authentic experience. There are

places to shop for aboriginal souvenirs.

Guided tours of the area rarely fail to stop at Alice Springs梠ften for a couple of days. One can visit the Western

MacDonnell mountain ranges, where one can see the Ochre Pits, Simpson抯 Gap or hike the Ormiston Gorge. There are many

places to eat authentic Australian food.

Guided tours of Northern Australia take you back to the aboriginal life and help you explore the Australian Outback in ways

few people have been able to do. The sights and attractions are many and it抯 a great trip for the whole family.

Discover Guided Tours of Brazil

Most people don抰 think of South America went they think of going on vacation. Even so, there are guided tours of many

places on this continent that will provide you with an adventure of a lifetime and will allow you to see things few venture

forth to see. Adventure guided tours of Brazil may be just the South American location for you.

Most guided tours of Brazil begin in Rio de Janeiro, the largest city in Brazil. After getting you settled, your tour guide

may begin by taking you on a spectacular two-stage cable car tour of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. At the top of the mountain,

you抣l need to have your camera ready to take mountaintop pictures of Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana Beach and the lovely

Guanabara Bay.

While still in Rio de Janeiro, many guided tours will take you to see the sights of the city, including a visit to the H.

Stern Gem Factory梩he largest jewelry factory and store in the world. You may also visit the Corcovado Mountain, ascending

the mountain by means of a cog railway. At the top, you抣l have a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro from the site of the

statue of Christ the Redeemer, sitting 2,300 feet above the city.

While in Rio de Janeiro, many guided tours will introduce you to traditional Brazilian cuisine, shopping areas, music

venues and areas for further shopping and sightseeing on your own.

Another common site for guided tours of Brazil is Foz do Igua琥, the fourth largest city in Brazil, located in Southern

Brazil. There you will see the stunning Iguassu Falls, a waterfall with a flow capacity equal to three times that of

Niagara Falls. The falls marks the demarcation between Brazil and Argentina. Perhaps you抣l stay in a hotel overlooking

the waterfalls.

Many guided tours offer you the opportunity to spend a couple of days at the waterfalls, including walking tours of the

Brazilian side of the falls and a motor coach tour of the Argentine side of this spectacular place. You can walk through

the Foz do Igua琥 National Park with views that take you to spots directly over the falls梚ncluding one called the 揇evil抯

Throat?

Take an early morning flight out of the falls area, where many guided tours of Brazil will take you to Manaus, in the heart

of the Amazon River valley. You may stay at a hotel on the Rio Negro just before it meets with the more expansive Amazon

River.

Guided tours of this area of Brazil would be remiss if they failed to take visitors on an actual Amazon River tour. So hop

on an Amazonian riverboat for a day-long tour down the Amazon River. Many such tours will let you stop off for an amazing

hike through the jungle and a picnic lunch in this pristine area of Brazil.

Guided tours of the city of Manaus are also available, where you can see the Indian Museum, the municipal market and a

famous Italian opera house. Then it抯 off to fly to Brasilia, Brazil抯 planned, national capital. You抣l go on a lovely

tour of the city, including the President抯 residence, the Military Ministries, the Itamaraty Palace and many other sites

of interest.

Other guided tours will fly you into Salvador da Bahia, where you抣l take a historic tour of this site of colonial

architecture. You抣l visit the Solar do Unhao, a restored colonial mansion where you can dine in the slaves quarters.

There are many sites and attractions to see on guided tours of Brazil. Allow yourself at least two weeks to see and

A Touch of Adventure: Guided Tours of China

China is one of the few countries that Westerners still feel a sense of wonder about. Not having traditionally been seen as

a tourist attraction, there are not many Western travelers who have ventured into this mysterious land. Today, however,

guided tours of China are more plentiful and cost-effective, making seeing China all the rage with adventurous travelers.

Guided tours of China most definitely will take you to Beijing, China抯 capital city. You抣l visit the Forbidden City, an

ancient city built for China抯 emperors, the Great Wall of China, a must for every traveler, and you抣l still have time for

bargain shopping with Beijing抯 street vendors or at Silk Alley, a bargain hunter抯 paradise.

Because China is such a large country, guided tours of China often include several intra-country airline flights. The

airplane flights are exactly like those in the US and Europe, with the exception that the in-flight meal is inedible and

you won抰 understand a word anyone is saying.

The next stop on many guided tours of China is the ancient capital city of Xi抋n, the beginning of the historic

揝ilk Road敆a trading route extending from Asia to parts of Europe. Xi抋n is famous for being the site of the

揈ighth Wonder of the World敆the famed Terra Cotta Warriors of Xin.

Most guided tours of Xi抋n will take you out to the countryside where the archeological site and museum for the life-size

terra cotta warriors exist. There are three archeological pits containing thousands of life-sized terra cotta soldiers,

horses and carriages. These soldiers have been painstakingly recreated from fragments of pottery and the work at the site

is ongoing.

The best guided tours of the Terra Cotta Warriors will tell you a little secret. In the gift shop, there are stacks of a

beautiful picture book of the warriors, written in several languages. Next to the stack of books sits one of the original

farmers whose well-digging first uncovered the soldiers in 1974. He抣l sign your book for free, giving you a wonderful

keepsake to take home.

A recent trend in guided tours of China is to take you on a memorable, multi-day tour on a riverboat down the Yangtze River.

Most guided tours begin in Chong Xing, a sprawling city of 32 million people in South Central China. There, you抣l board a

lovely ship and you抣l receive a room to sleep in, many with private decks so you can enjoy the scenery.

A riverboat tour down the Yangtze River should be memorable and relaxing. Guided tours of the river include daily excursions

to sites along the way. As you travel downstream, you抣l reach the Yangtze River抯 famous three gorges. These are areas of

the river with huge mountains and massive cliffs on either side of the river.

Unfortunately, guided tours of the Yangtze River may not be as exciting as they are today or even as they were a few years

ago. The Chinese government is building the largest hydroelectric dam downstream from the gorges, raising the water level,

displacing millions of people and marring the beauty of the three gorges. While onboard the ship, you抣l enjoy daily

activities and fine Chinese dining every night.

Next on your list will probably be Shanghai. Most guided tours of China take advantage of the fact that Shanghai is near

the mouth of the Yangtze River and close to where you抣l disembark. Shanghai can be considered the 揘ew York?of China.

It is the center of finance and business in China and, for seasoned travelers, it抯 an excellent place to shop before

stuffing your bags for the flight home.

Exciting Guided Tours: Visit the Ancient City of Beijing

With the coming of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, more and more guided tours of this city in China have been

established and China itself has become one of the fastest growing tourist locations in the world.

For the US, the borders of China are open and tourists are welcome to get visas for travel in this country.

Because Chinese is such a difficult language to learn, signing up for one of the many guided tours of the country

is the best option. Otherwise, the complications of travel and language barriers make it difficult for a couple or

family to really see the country in the best way possible.

Most guided tours of China include several cities as well as intra-China flights from city to city.

This is preferable to driving as this is a very large country.

Otherwise, you can just pick a city and spend your time there. For example, a tour could involve

the city of Beijing (formerly 揚eking? where the Olympic preparations are being made.

From this city, you can visit the infamous Tiananmen Square, where many protesters were killed in 1989.

Now, it is a peaceful meeting place where visitors can see MaoTse Tung抯 entombed body and an official museum.

Almost all guided tours of Beijing also include a walking tour of the Forbidden City梐 place where ancient emperors

lived and ruled the country. Although it has been burned down and rebuilt several times, the tourist definitely gets

an idea of how the ancient royalty lived and several of the large statues and the garden are still standing.

The Summer Palace in Beijing is on a lake nearby and includes the longest covered walkway in the world.

Bring your most comfortable shoes as there is a great deal of walking involved.

Guided tours around Beijing also commonly include a visit to a portion of the Great Wall of China.

On the bus ride out to the wall, the visitor can see bits and pieces of the wall snaking along the tops of the mountain.

At the visitor center, the tourist can take a cable car up to the base of the wall, where a short walk takes you to the

wall itself. Good walking shoes are vital here as well because the wall isn抰 flat when one walks on it and is instead

very irregular and slanted in places.

Other places to see on guided tours of Beijing are what the Chinese call the 揾utongs?

These are very narrow alley-like passageways that can, in part, be traveled through using Chinese pedicabs梑icycles

attached to surreys for two riders to sit on and enjoy the scenery. The lucky tourist will get to visit a school inside

one of the hutong areas where very small children are taught from as young as two years of age. Private homes in the

hutongs can be visited as well so the tourist can see how genuine Chinese people live. Because you are on a guided

tour, you will have the advantage of an interpreter.

None of the guided tours of Beijing are complete without a trip to the shopping areas.

The infamous 揝ilk Alley?contains a plethora of what otherwise would be street vendors梐ll trying

to get your attention and all hoping you don抰 know how to bargain. Bargaining in Beijing is essential so

bring your money and an extra suitcase to pack your well-loved souvenirs in.

Off the Beaten Path on Guided Tours of England

Most guided tours of England focus on London and yet miss the beautiful and historic places you can go in the rest of

England. It抯 a lovely country with lots of history and places in which you can truly have an adventure.

A favorite place for many guided tours of England is Stratford upon Avon. Located on the Avon River, it was the birthplace

of both William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway. You may be able to stay in hotels that date back to the time of William

Shakespeare, see his place of death and surrounding gardens and the Anne Hathaway House.

Guided tours of Stratford upon Avon will take you to Trinity Church where both William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway were

buried and you can see the lovely Hathaway Cottage梐 must-see on most guided tours. In addition, Shakespeare抯 birthplace

has been turned into a showplace of period furniture that takes you back to the time of his birth in a delightful little

museum.

You may also wish to travel to Warwick Castle梐nother must-see destination on many guided tours. It is perhaps one of the

best preserved old castles in all of England. Located along the Avon River, your tour guide will tell you that the original

castle was built around the year 900 AD. Gradually, parts of the castle were added onto and fortified until it became the

huge and sprawling castle you can see today.

Guided tours of Warwick Castle are available to groups and include the dungeons, the high buttresses, and rooms from various

eras, including the Victorian Era. One of the special features of this castle is that it has been outfitted with wax figures

made from Madame Tussaud抯 galleries. There is an entire section of ornately decorated Victorian period rooms, complete

with wax figures.

Often, guided tours will allow you beyond the castle walls and out into the massive gardens and conservatory, where

visitors can have lunch and enjoy the beauty of the gardens. If the weather is right, you will be able to walk among real

peacocks strutting through the gardens. All in all, it is a day worth remembering.

Guided tours that partake of the southern part of England will take you to the famous Stonehenge, built more than two

millennia ago and a favorite tourist attraction. Those who come during the summer or winter solstice should expect that

there will be a crowd there at the crack of first daylight.

Fun guided tours of England will take you to Oxford, home of the famous Oxford University and to Christ Church, where some

aspects of the Harry Potter movies were filmed, including the scenes in the great hall. In fact, you can take an entire

Harry Potter guided tour that will guide you to as many places as possible that were included in the filming of the movie.

After rolling past the many castle ruins, fabulous gardens and quaint British homes on one of the guided tours of England,

you may forget all about London itself. If not, extend your tour into the big city of London梐 city that often offers

guided tours involving just those wondrous things you抣l find right there. Take your time and enjoy all that England has

Ancient Wonders Revealed on Guided Tours of Greece

Greece, the mysterious island of the ancients, is on the list of desired guided tours of many seasoned travelers. There

are scores of archeological sites to visit in Greece and extended guided tours will take you out to one or more of Greece抯

several Mediterranean islands. So sign up for a tour and enjoy the trip of a lifetime.

Most guided tours of Greece will begin in Athens, the capital city of Greece and a nice city to fly into. You抣l often

stay in Athens for a few days and take day trips in and around this fabulous city. Within the city itself, there is much

to see, including the famous Acropolis and a tour of the magnificent Athens museum. Visitors can spend all day wandering

the halls of this lovely museum, taking in the many artifacts from ancient Greece that are housed there.

Travel from Athens and visit the famed Theatre of Epidaurus, known for its amazing acoustics. Guided tours of the area may

then take you to the town of Nauplion and on to Mycenae, where you抣l see some important archeology and visit the tomb of

Agamemnon. After seeing these wonderful archeological sites, you抣l travel on to Olympia, passing through the towns of

Tripolis and Megalopolis. Practically everywhere you look, there will be archeological ruins and something to see.

In Olympia, guided tours of the area will take you to the site of the original Olympic Games in ancient times. You can put

your feet into the same toeholds that ancient athletes used for sprinting. You抣l see the ancient Olympic stadium and the

Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus along with an informative archeological museum, where you can learn about the early Olympic Games.

After taking in all of the Olympic ruins, guided tours will often drive you through the plains of Eliad and Achaia and

through the awesome bridge crossing the Corinthian Bay. Eventually, you will arrive at the ancient and famous city of

Delphi. Most guided tours will have you stay overnight in the city of Delphi.

In Delphi, guided tours of the area will give you a chance to visit the archeological site located there as well as the

Museum of Delphi. From there, you will travel on to the village of Kalambaka, the site of some gigantic rocks known as

the Meteora. Nearby, you can visit age old monasteries, complete with pieces of ancient Byzantine artwork. Afterward,

you will likely head back to Athens for another adventure梩hat of the islands near Greece.

In Athens, guided tours of the islands around Greece will allow you to get onto a lovely cruise ship, where your first

stop will likely be Mykonos. A pearl in the Mediterranean Sea, Mykonos is known for being the vacation site for

international jet-setters who enjoy its sandy beaches and memorable nightlife.

Perhaps the next port of call on many guided tours of this area is the Turkish port of Kusadasi. You can visit one of the

most complete ancient cities ever to be excavated, the city of Ephessos, where St. Paul was first arrested and then banished.

Later, you will arrive in Patmos, another terrific spot for archeological and Biblical spots.

Other spectacular islands many guided tours of this area will take you are the islands of Crete and Santorini, believed by

some to be the lost continent of Atlantis. Enjoy the spectacular views and the ocean sunshine for, before long, you抣l be

sailing back to Athens and to your home port of call.

Wild Guided Tours on Bicycle of Germany抯 Black Forest

There are many ways to visit Germany and it抯 an oft visited country when people travel to Europe. But have you

considered the guided tours on bicycle of the famous and beautiful Black Forest of Germany抯 Bavarian region. Bicycling

only gets you so far in one day but it allows you to see a side of the old time Germany that few people get a glimpse of.

Perhaps the best news about taking one of the guided tours of Germany on a bicycle is that you don抰 need to be a world

class cyclist to do this tour. The tours generally start at a village at the top of one of the Black Forest抯 mountains and

the ride is all downhill from there. You needn抰 take your bicycle or even a helmet. The tour guides have all of that for

you, although you are welcome to bring some of your own gear. Bringing your bicycle, however, would be a challenge, as

you抣l soon see.

You won抰 likely be flying directly into the Black Forest as it抯 relatively isolated from that sort of travel. Instead,

most guided tours of the Black Forest will have you fly into Frankfurt Airport, take the subway to the train station and

hop on the nearest train headed south. As you can see, hauling your bike just this far is a little bit cumbersome, don抰

you think? Other guided tours will fly you into Strasbourg, just across the border in France.

Your train ride either way will likely lead you to Offenburg, the nearest big town to where you抣l begin your ride.

Some guided tours of the Black Forest will pick you up there while others will have you take a taxi or smaller train to a

village like Lossburg. Lossburg is truly a representative sample of small town Germany, with Bavarian style homes, some

of which are bed and breakfast homes that you抣l stay in.

Most guided tours really get started after a healthy, filling breakfast in your home-style dwelling. Don抰 count on your

hosts to speak English so a little German learned beforehand will come in handy. Your tour guide will bring the bikes and

helmets and, while some will bike with you, others will just give you a map梐ll in German. Either way, soon you抣l be

sailing along a paved or dirt-packed trail, deep within the magnificent forest.

Perhaps you抣l be on one of the guided tours of the Neckar Valley or one of several other valleys in the great, untouched

forest. Every few hours or so, you抣l reach a little village that will make you feel you抳e gone back in time. Your

luggage will be transported to your next overnight location so you can enjoy the monasteries, breweries and little shops

with souvenirs you can pack in your backpack. There抯 at least one small, hometown restaurant in every village where the

food is cheap and authentically Bavarian.

Back on your bikes, you can抰 get lost because, if you抮e not going downhill, you抮e headed in the wrong direction.

Over a four to five day period of time, you抣l find yourself back in Offenburg where you抣l give up your bikes and perhaps

take a train ride over to Strasbourg for some French cuisine and more

The guided tours of the Black Forest often offer such a trip as a nice way to round out your tour. In the end, you抣l have

seen a rare gem in the Black Forest of Germany and you抣l be more physically fit in the process.

Go Down Under with Guided Tours of Eastern Australia

For those interested in outdoor fun and a look at life in the Southern Hemisphere, guided tours of the East Coast of

Australia are the best choices in family fun and adventure. Go as a couple, join a tour group solo or take your entire

family to this amazing and wonderful part of our world.

Most guided tours of this part of the country begin by having you fly into Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales.

Visit Sidney抯 famed opera house with its unique and lovely architecture, snap a picture of Sydney抯 Harbour Bridge and

visit one of several local beaches for a quick swim, some sun tanning or for people watching.

Leave Sydney via the Harbour Bridge. Guided tours of Eastern Australia will often take you up the coast through Taree,

where you can visit a koala breeding park and koala sanctuary. There are many beach-side accommodations for you to have a

beach barbecue and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves.

Guided tours of Eastern Australia will often take you to Australia抯 most easterly point on Byron Bay. Visit the relaxing

Surfers Paradise and enjoy the relaxing scenery near the ocean and away from any big cities.

One of most common stops on guided tours of Eastern Australia is Moreton Island. You抣l need to take a ferry boat to get

to the island but, once there, you can spend up to two days on the world抯 largest sand islands, riding four wheel drive

vehicles and staying in authentic fisherman抯 cottages. You will be able to explore deserted beaches, go sand toboggan

riding on the island抯 sand dunes, explore old shipwrecks and swim in the crystal clear waters of the island抯 lagoons.

After a wonderful time on Moreton Island, guided tours of Eastern Australia will take you further up north and you抣l

enter the tropical area of Rockhampton. After that, you抣l cross the famous Tropic of Capricorn and perhaps your tour

will take you to Arlie Beach, the dropping off point to the Whitsunday Island Group where you抣l likely enjoy a sailing

trip or take a picturesque island cruise. Some visitors will choose to travel on a fast sailing yacht, while others will

catch a launch that will have an underwater observatory. Most likely, you抣l stay at a magnificent island resort.

Many guided tours of Eastern Australia will take you further north after your visit to the Whitsunday Islands and you can

spend a couple of days at Mission Beach. There are numerous activities in Mission Beach, including a heart-stopping white

water rafting tour, sea kayaking tours or a more leisurely boating tour out to Dunk Island. Explore the rainforest during

guided tours of the area or try tandem sky-diving for some real adventure. Visitors can even just take in a suntan at the

beach. There抯 something for everyone.

Guided tours of Eastern Australia would be remiss if they didn抰 take you over to claims for a day-long guided tour sailing

on the Outer Barrier Reef. Visitors can try their hand at scuba diving, snorkeling and feeding the fish in and around the

gorgeous coral reefs that have become the focal point of many guided tours of this area. It抯 truly a memorable experience.

Guided tours of Eastern Australia offer the very best Australia has to offer, from the city to the beauty of its lovely

ocean. Many guided tours are very affordable and most offer something for everyone to do.

Fun Harry Potter Guided Tours of the UK

In response to the fabulous interest folks all over the world have to the Harry Potter book series and movies, guided tours

involving all things Harry Potter have popped up everywhere. A perfect tour for families and fans alike, many visitors will

come to have a greater appreciation for the filming of this famous series of movies.

Many Harry Potter guided tours begin in London where you抣l visit the London Zoo, called the Little Whinging Zoo in the book.

The scene where Harry speaks to the snake took place in the reptile house at this otherwise wonderful family attraction.

Then, it抯 on to the Kings Cross Station, where Harry抯 Platform 9 ?took Harry on the Hogwarts Express.

Many Harry Potter guided tours go straight over from the train station to the Australia House on the Strand, the building

that was transformed into Gringotts Wizarding Bank in the movie. A short ways away is the Charing Cross Road, also known

in the movie as Diagon Alley, where Harry bought his school supplies and his wand.

While in London, Harry Potter guided tours often let you see some of the other more ordinary sites in the city. Don抰 forget

to stop at the Westminster Tube Station where Harry and Mr. Weasley stop on their trip to the Ministry of Magic hearing.

Just down the road from the station is the red telephone booth near Scotland Yard that Harry used to get into the Ministry.

A most exciting stop on Harry Potter guided tours is a trip to Oxford where you抣l visit Christ Church College, the site of

many of the interior scenes of Hogwarts Academy, including the great hall, where the students of Hogwarts ate. The Duke

Humphrey抯 Library was featured as the library inside Hogwarts. Truly, there are places all over Oxford where Harry Potter

movie scenes were filmed, including the Divinity School, which was turned into the hospital wing at Hogwarts.

On the next stop on many Harry Potter guided tours, you抣l visit Warwick Castle to see what real castle life is like and

you抣l travel to the Cathedral of Gloucester, one of the places where many interior scenes were shot, including those of

Gryffindor抯 dormitory. All of the ghost scenes and talking picture scenes were done at the cathedral as well.

Finally, you can visit the medieval village of Lacock梐 favorite spot for Harry Potter guided tours. The village inspired

the village of Gordric抯 Hollow, where Harry lived with his parents. Several scenes from Hogwarts School for Wizardry and

Magic, including Professor Snape抯 classroom in the dungeon, were shot in the village. Visitors may discover that the

village of Lacock was the location of other movies, including Pride and Prejudice.

Many Harry Potter guided tours will offer evening sessions for tour guests to view the movies all over again and discuss

the places they抎 visited that day. As there are numerous other attractions along the way, some guided tours will fill in

the time with visits to castle ruins, quaint villages or other historic sites to give guests the full picture of what living

like Harry Potter would be like.

Insightful Guided Tours of the Holocaust

There are few guided tours of Europe more poignant than a tour of the major sites of the Holocaust梩he extermination of

millions of people in the 1930s and 1940s. Tours such as this actually exist for the traveler who wants to see a side of

European contemporary history that is rarely available to the average traveler.

Guided tours involving Holocaust sites often begin in Amsterdam as many flights from the US end up there first. In

Amsterdam, you can visit the historic Anne Frank house that has been turned into a museum of related artifacts. You can

also visit the Corrie Ten Boom House, where a Dutch family hid many refugees from German rule. Corrie Ten Boom was featured

in the book she wrote, The Hiding Place, which was eventually turned into a movie.

The next logical stop on your tour is the Westerbork Transit Camp and later on, the Bergen-Belsen Concentration camp.

Anne Frank died of typhus there and over 50,000 others died there as well. Guided tours of this area will show you what

these people went through and will provide you with detailed information about the site抯 history.

Many guided tours of Holocaust areas will show you the Wannsee Villa where the decision to exterminate the Jews was made.

The villa is located in Berlin, which is also the site of the Jewish Museum in Berlin. Your tour guide will likely take

you to both places in Berlin.

While in Germany, you抣l see the Buchenwald camp in Weimar. Besides Jewish prisoners, many political prisoners, Communists

and those involved in medicine and the arts were imprisoned there and used for slave labor. Buchenwald was one of the few

concentration camps that existed on German soil. It抯 a poignant visit but one worth seeing.

Next, many guided tours will take you to Krakow, Poland. You抣l visit the Treblinka train station, one of the few remnants

left of the death camp. Treblinka was one of three death camps in which no one actually lived there and all prisoners sent

to the camp were killed. On a lighter note, you can see the original 揝hindler抯 Factory?where some laborers were treated

considerably better than their counterparts.

Not a single one of the guided tours devoted to the Holocaust would miss a visit to the infamous Auschwitz and Birkenau

concentration camps. Many areas of these camps have been destroyed as they were a poor reminder of the horrible things

that happened there but there are several sites left to see and to think upon.

By this time, many travelers on guided tours of the Holocaust run the risk of being depressed by what they抳e witnessed.

For this reason, as the tour winds southward again, a stop in Prague, in the Czech Republic, might be a good idea.

It抯 a beautiful city with castles and lovely architecture to see and explore.

While in the Czech Republic, many guided tours related to the Holocaust will take you to the site of the village of Lidice

and the memorial there. It was the site where, in 1942, all male residents of the village were massacred and the remaining

villagers were deported before the village was destroyed in its entirety.

Camp Mauthausen in Austria and Dachau in Germany will round out most guided tours involving the Holocaust.

Both are infamous camps and are a big part of the history the Holocaust has to show the people of today.

Northern Delight: Guided Tours of Minneapolis

Far from being the center of a frozen tundra somewhere, Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a lovely town of 300,000 residents that

visitors might enjoy. Fortunately, guided tours of the area are available through several hotels and through the Chamber of

Commerce. Visitors to the area may just be surprised at the lovely views and culture the area has to offer.

Get the lay of the land before you dive in and take a bus trolley tour of the city; guided tours are available daily and

will show you the IDS Center, the high rise building featured in the 揗ary Tyler Moore Show?and the statue of Mary nearby

on the Nicollet Mall. The trolley will show you around the lakes and the fabulous homes there, including Mary抯 揾ome?in

the show.

You抣l also catch sight of the Basilica of St. Mary抯, one of Minneapolis?largest and most beautiful churches.

Once you抳e seen an overview, many guided tours will take you to the Walker Art Museum梐 contemporary art museum with many

unusual sculptures and paintings. Perhaps the highlight, however, is just outside in the sculpture garden where large

statues grace paved pathways that visitors can walk on. One of the most famous sculptures is of a large spoon with a cherry

in the spoon. There is also an indoor greenhouse that features flowers all year round.

Another museum on the docket of most guided tours is the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This is a more traditional art

museum with old paintings, sculptures and ancient artifacts from all over the year. The Institute offers both its permanent

collection and one or more traveling collections, such as the Monet exhibit, throughout the year.

On the subject of museums, perhaps you抣l be able to convince one of the guided tours to take you across the river to

Minneapolis?sister city of St. Paul. There you can see the Science Museum of Minnesota, which has exhibits that vary over

time, and its Omnitheater梐 large planetarium-like large-screen theater offering spectacular shows. In addition, families

might wish to take in the Minnesota Children抯 Museum, a lovely place to take the kids.

Back in Minneapolis, many guided tours of the area will take you around one or more of Minneapolis?four prominent lakes.

Those with good walking shoes can walk on pathways around the lakes and bicycles can be rented. In the wintertime, skating

is offered on crystal clear skating rinks.

Nature-lovers may wish to see Minnehaha Falls, nestled within Minnehaha Park. Guided tours of the area will often make the

stop on the way to your final destination nearby at the Fort Snelling State Park.

There are guided tours within the Fort Snelling State Park that take you into the old fort itself where, in the 19th

Century, soldiers guarded the area from Indians and other potential intruders. Located at the fork between the Minnesota

and Mississippi Rivers, the fort takes you back in time and helps you understand how the soldiers lived during those times.

As a final stop, many guided tours will drive you out to the Minnesota Zoo, a sprawling, natural habitat zoo, complete with

a huge indoor rainforest area. A monorail will take you past buffalo, tigers and other wild animals living comfortably in

their natural habitat.

Be Amazed by Guided Tours of Hawaii抯 Volcanoes National Park

If you抮e a fan of national parks, consider a real adventure and take one of the guided tours available at Hawaii抯

Volcanoes National Park. It will provide you with one of the rare looks inside the inner workings of an actively erupting

volcano.

Clearly, Hawaii抯 most active volcano is Kilauea. This small volcano has been actively erupting for several years now and

few guided tours of the Big Island of Hawaii will fail to take you to this fascinating place. In some cases, you can even

stay overnight there at the small hotel called the Volcano House.

Most guided tours will begin in the visitor抯 center where you can see and hear about what抯 currently going on with Kilauea,

including up to the minute information on what is happening now. Across the street is the Volcano House, which offers both

rooms to stay in and a restaurant overlooking Kilauea抯 caldera.

It is often foggy or rainy in the area and most guided tours of the park will take that into account and provide you with

umbrellas. There are places near the visitor center where you can walk but, for the most part, you抣l need to drive. Near

the visitor center are several warm steam vents coming up from the earth and a vast plain, which is a sulfur field that you

can walk to.

The sulfur fields are smelly but quite beautiful. The sulfur is a bright yellow color and, in some situations, you will be

able to see the steam rising from the ground. Take home a piece of sulfur as a souvenir. Guided tours of the area will

explain for you exactly how these sulfur fields came to be.

Next, it抯 time to get into a vehicle and travel around the caldera, a deep depression that marks the top of a major

eruption. Many guided tours will allow you to get out and take some pictures and most will take you to the observatory

about halfway around the circular caldera so you can get the broadest view of the area.

Toward the end of your tour around the caldera, most guided tours will let you get out and walk the amazing lava fields,

representing areas of recent eruptions that are as desolate as the moon and covered in black lava. Some of the lava is

ropy and smooth and is called pahoehoe lava. The pricklier lava is called a抋 lava and you抣l see that type, too.

Comprehensive guided tours of the Volcanoes National Park will take you to the Thurston Lava Tube梐 tube created by flowing

and cooling lava that has been cleaned out for visitors to actually walk through. Located among the rain forest area of

the island, the lava tube is both interesting and beautiful.

The highlight of most guided tours of the park is a trip to where the volcano is currently erupting. At the end of a

winding road, visitors will be surprised that the road simply quits due to recent lava flows. You can walk along areas

of land that didn抰 exist even five years ago. If you go toward evening, you抣l begin to see areas of glowing where lava

is bubbling out of the ridge next to the lava field and rangers have a telescope so you can see it up close. They don抰

recommend that visitors get close to the unpredictable lava, nor can one go too close to the ocean shelf as it has been

known to break off unexpectedly.

In the end, many guided tours of Hawaii抯 Volcanoes National Park will offer you an experience you will never forget.

You抣l learn a lot about volcanoes and see some amazing scenery.

London Calling: A Guided Tour

It抯 safe to say that there抯 so much to see packed into the city of London that going on one of their many guided tours

may be the only way to see everything. Built along the Thames River in England, it抯 a city with a history that extends

back two millennia. The hardest part of taking the guided tours of London is where to start first.

You might want to take a double-decker red bus tour just to get the lay of the land. They抮e inexpensive tours to take

and you can decide where you want to spend your time. Another fun tour is one that takes you around to all of the

afternoon tea places London has to offer. Who says you can抰 have just one of those scrumptious scones with clotted milk

and jam?

Many guided tours of London will take you to St. Paul抯 Cathedral, one of the tallest buildings in London and home to the

wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in 1981. Tourists can visit the whispering gallery as well as the tombs of

many past famous individuals in London抯 history. Westminster抯 Abbey is also beautiful and was home to the funeral of

Princess Diana.

In London, most guided tours will show you both Buckingham Palace, the home of the Queen of England and the famous 揷hanging

of the palace guard? It抯 really touristy but worth saying that you抳e been there. Kensington Palace has elegant grounds

and was home to Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and Holland Park Gardens are nearby and

are perfect places to meet up with your fellow tourists or to take a short walk.

No guided tours of London will forget to take you to see Big Ben, the London Bridge and the infamous Tower of London.

The Tower of London would be a good place to get off the bus and take a leisurely tour of the place. Historically, the

Tower of London housed numerous criminals and was the execution spot for several infamous people, particularly Anne Boleyn,

the second wife of Henry VIII. Perhaps the most beautiful place to see inside the tower is the vault containing England抯

crown jewels. Visitors ride a conveyor belt in a darkened room that highlights the glittering jewels.

If you抮e lucky, you抣l be on one of the guided tours of London that allows you a lengthy stop at the British Museum.

Clearly one of the premiere museums in all of the world, the British Museum houses mostly procured (stolen) goods from

all over the world, including a great deal of Egyptian pieces. The famed Rosetta Stone can be seen up close and personal

along with ancient artifacts brought home when British explorers visited ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt. If your tour guide

allows it, spend as much time as you can inside that museum as there are things you抣l never see anywhere else.

Perhaps, you抳e got time for nightlife? If you抮e on one of the guided tours of London that extends for a few days, take in

a play, a musical or even buy group tickets to see the Royal Ballet. Maybe you抣l all get tickets to Leicester Square where

you can take in a world film premiere. In addition, many shopping areas are open late and there are so many restaurants

that can round out your tour of this exciting city.

Take an Inca Adventure on Guided Tours of Peru

Imagine the majesty of the Inca Empire in Peru back in the days of their glory. Now with guided tours of this area in Peru,

you no longer need to imagine and you can see how the Incas survived and thrived in this beautiful South American location.

Guided tours will take you to Cusco, considered the capital city of the Inca Empire. Cusco is also known as the

揂rcheological Capital of the Americas?because this is the only place in South America where such rich cultural remains

are so readily accessible. It抯 a beautiful city and a great starting point on your guided adventure.

In Cusco, most guided tours divide the city into three types of major attractions. The first is Cusco city, containing

many ruins, temples, churches, mansions and other archeological sites. The second is Machu Picchu, the 揕ost City of the

Incas?and one of the most amazing archeological sites you抣l ever see. The third is the Sacred Valley of the Incas梐 place

with a lovely climate, fertile fields and amazing views of archeological sites, such as the ancient agricultural terraces,

and the beautiful village of Chinchero, complete with huge Inca Walls in the village抯 main square.

Some guided tours of this area will be perfect for adventurers, who, in the Sacred Valley, can enjoy river rafting,

hang-gliding, hiking and mountain biking. Let抯 look at what a typical guided tour of the area can offer visitors to this

enchanted land.

You抣l arrive at the Cusco Airport where guided tours often meet you and get you to your hotel. You抣l need time to rest

because the altitude is so high that you抣l need time to get used to in order to avoid altitude sickness. Later, you抣l

take a sightseeing tour of the city of Cusco, where you抣l visit the city抯 main square, its magnificent cathedral and the

Temple of the Sun. Craftsmen have shops in the area for you to buy some souvenirs of your stay.

If there is time, many guided tours will drive you out of the city of Cusco to see the famous Inca sites of Kenko,

Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the very impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. This was a fortress strategically constructed

on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco.

Next, many guided tours of the Inca ruins will take you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, along the Vilcanota River.

You抣l become acquainted with peasant customs and have time to bargain with street vendors in a traditional Indian Market.

You抣l also visit the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, constructed to guard the entrance to the valley. Visit

the Andean village of Chinchero and see the Inca Wall in the village抯 main square. Then it抯 back to Cusco for some rest

and relaxation.

Perhaps the highlight of guided tours of this area is the trip to Machu Picchu. You抣l begin with a three hour train trip

to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. This is one of the most well known examples of Inca architecture that survives

today. You抣l need to take a thirty minute uphill and winding bus trip before arriving at this amazing Citadel.

Once at the Citadel there will be guided tours of this archeological location, including visits to the main plaza, the

Circular Tower, The Sacred Sun Dial, the royal quarters, the temple of the three windows and several burial grounds. It抯

easy to imagine the Incas living there.

Guided tours of the Inca Empire in Peru are informative, beautiful and offer some of the best archeology you抣l ever see.

It抯 a must-see location for every world traveler.

Thrilling Guided Tours on Bicycle of South New Zealand

There are few things as breathtaking and exhilarating as traveling with one of several outstanding guided tours on bicycle of

New Zealand. New Zealand is comprised of two major islands, the North Island and the South Island. Of the two, the South

Island offers a more rustic look at the countryside as it rushes beneath your feet on a bicycle. This type of guided tour

is not for the casual cyclist. Hills and mountains are part of the landscape and, while you can walk these areas, it抯 better if you抳e worked out on a

bicycle a little bit beforehand.

One of the nicest guided tours of the South Island of New Zealand begins when you land in Christchurch. This large city is

the take off point for many who are going to Antarctica, so if you have time between flights, take a tour of the Antarctic

Centre, just a couple of blocks from the airport. It抯 a museum of sorts about exploration in Antarctica.

Most likely, guided tours of the South Island won抰 actually start in Christchurch and you抣l be taking a propeller

plane (yes, a propeller plane) over the vast and enormous mountain range that runs down the middle of the island and you抣l

arrive at a spit of an airport in a village like Hokitika, where the bicycling really begins.

Some may ask why there are guided tours of this part of New Zealand at all because there is really only one main road

traveling south along the shoreline of the rustic and wild Tasman Sea. You can抰 get lost. Even so, the tour guides will

carry extra food and will probably have a bike trailer to pick up the bikes of stragglers that can抰 finish the day抯 ride.

The riders take off in the direction of the guide and move along at their own pace.

It抯 very easy to see why there are guided tours of this part of the country. The mountains are ever-present on your left,

there are beautiful, unspoiled forests and the rivers run clear and are of a striking aqua color due to the mineral content

of the water coming off the mountains. Remember, though, they drive on the opposite side of the road as in the US so you

have to train your mind to watch for any traffic accordingly.

In truth, there is very little traffic and bicycles own the road on most guided tours of the South Island. One can bicycle

three full days without ever seeing even a small village. Instead, there are bed and breakfast inns or small motels along

the way and many meals can be made by the tour guide.

If you抮e on one of these guided tours of New Zealand, you抣l not only see Mount Hercules but you抣l feel like Hercules

(or very tired) after climbing the impressive mountain. And don抰 forget the exhilaration of riding back down. One of

the other highlights of your tour will be the Franz Josef Glacier, south of Whataroa. It抯 a gigantic dirty piece of ice

dangling in the crevice between two mountains. Still, it抯 an impressive site to see.

Most guided tours of this type will allow you to travel 500 km (300 miles) in about a week. You抣l be on the bicycle much

of the time but viewing this magnificent scenery from this vantage point can抰 be beat. At the end of your tour, you can

fly home via Queensland, in the southern part of the island.

Guided Tours of Wondrous Egypt

Who hasn抰 wanted to see the wondrous archeological sites and amazing artifacts to be found in Egypt梐 land perfectly laid

out for archeology buffs? Now, guided tours of Egypt and all its splendor are available for travelers from all over the

world to visit and explore. Let抯 take a look at what many guided tours have to offer.

Most guided tours of Egypt begin in Cairo, where Egypt抯 largest airport and biggest city are waiting to greet you. While

in Egypt, your guide may take you to the famous Egyptian Museum, where the treasures of Tutankhamen and other ancient

artifacts are available for viewing. You may take a drive to Old Cairo, the area where ancient Christians and Jews lived

within the city. Have fun shopping at the colorful Khan El Khalili Bazaar and don抰 forget to bargain.

One of the most beautiful sites on guided tours of Egypt is a visit to the pyramids and the great Sphinx of Giza, a five

thousand year-old monument. After taking as many pictures as you can, visit the nearby Solar Boat Museum and continue on

to the ancient city of Memphis, the first capital city of United Upper and Lower Egypt, and see Sakkara, the site of the

Step Pyramid of Zoser.

Longer guided tours of Egypt will fly you out of the area to Sharm El Sheikh, a city on the sea with lovely beaches, pure

white sands and a chance to go diving in the Ras Mohammed Underwater Nature Reserve. Another option is a walking tour to

visit a Bedouin camp in the desert. Other visits include the St. Catherine Monastery or night tours of Mount Sinai, where

you can watch a gorgeous sunrise and visit the monastery located there.

Next, some guided tours will take you on a flight to Luxor where you抣l take a fabulous cruise ship for an unforgettable

experience on the Nile River. Cruise trips typically last five days and four nights. You抣l visit the Luxor Temple that

was originally dedicated to the God Amon-Ra. Karnak Temple is nearby as well.

Guided tours of the area will have you continue on your cruise ship and will take you to the famous Valley of the Kings and

Queens, where you can see the Funerary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and numerous other archeological findings. The cruise

ship will be sailing upstream and will take you up to Edfu where you can visit the Edfu Temple, a famous part of Egyptian

architecture.

Still on the cruise ship the next day, guided tours of the Nile will stop off at the Temple of Kom Ombo, another Egyptian
